| The
music student has embarked on an exciting adventure. Study begins
with simple classical pieces and traditional folk tunes. A carefully
organized, developmental sequence leads to mastery of gradually
more complex music. From the beginning, study of the piano repertory
is integrated with exercises (in theory, technique and sight reading)
intended to reinforce confidence, foster skills mastery, and enhance
musical enjoyment.
The standard classical piano repertory forms the core of the curriculum. Some jazz and seasonal favorites provide variety and enrichment. Always, of course, method and materials are adapted to the needs of the student.
Private Instruction
All lessons are provided on a well maintained Kawai RX2 grand piano. Beginning students are given a 30 minute private weekly lesson. More advanced students require a longer lesson.
The Open Studio
In addition to the weekly lesson, the Open Studio is offered, several times a year, for those who wish. Participants share refreshments and play for one another in a relaxed atmosphere.
The Annual Recital
This springtime event offers family members and friends a more formal opportunity to enjoy the music making of those who participate.
The Connecticut Music Teacher’s Association
Thorough preparation is provided for those students who wish to participate in events sponsored by the MTA. A motivating and enjoyable opportunity is the yearly Music Achievement Program (Levels 1-10).
Preparation for College Level Music Study
For students with the ability and goal to be music majors,
thorough preparation and opportunities are provided to meet the musical
standards expected of college freshman music students.
